Poetry festivals don't come out of nowhere, nor pay for themselves. As one poet said, "You're clearly not in this for the money," while another says, "Let's do it for the poets." A former director of another large poetry project wrote, "there isn't a day I don't ask for money for poetry." We know the truth in that statement.
